The weather is generally very hot over southern China. The air temperatures over parts of the New Territories rose to 34 degrees or above in the afternoon.
At 4 p.m., the tropical depression to the south of Taiwan was centred about 190 kilometres south-southwest of Gaoxiong. It is forecast to move west at about 12 kilometres per hour across Luzon Strait and entering the northern part of the South China Sea. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Malou has weakened into a tropical depression and was centred about 160 kilometres west-northwest of Tokyo. It is forecast to move east at about 22 kilometres per hour across Honshu, Japan.
Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow:
Very hot and hazy. There will be isolated showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 29 and 33 degrees. Light to moderate northwesterly winds.
Outlook: Some rain in the following couple of days.
